Professor Dr. Wan Hazabbah Wan Hitam is a senior lecturer, consultant ophthalmologist, and Malaysia’s first trained neuro-ophthalmologist. He heads the Neuro-ophthalmology Service at Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia and oversees Malaysia’s Neuro-ophthalmology Subspecialty Training Programme. With over 200 peer-reviewed publications, his research focuses on optic neuritis and visual pathways. He has received international accolades, including the Tsutsui Award (2008), SSO Named Lecture Award (2017), APAO Distinguished Service Award (2020), and APAO Achievement Award (2024). Formerly the Head of USM Ophthalmology and MUCCO Chairperson, he pioneered postgraduate curricula and was granted the Mohamed Noor Marahakim Achievement Award (2024). Active in community engagement, he serves as the Community Engagement Coordinator at USM Health Campus, advancing outreach programs and managing a mobile eye clinic.
