Professor Dr. Tengku Ain Kamalden is a distinguished academic ophthalmologist and retinal specialist at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, where she currently serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology. With more than two decades of clinical and academic experience, she is internationally recognised for her leadership in retinal disease research, medical education, and healthcare transformation.

She holds multiple qualifications from premier institutions, including a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) from the University of Oxford, and fellowships and memberships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK). A Fulbright Visiting Research Scholar at Johns Hopkins University, she is also the recipient of the prestigious Alcon Research Institute Young Investigator Award and the Global Ophthalmology Award Program by Bayer. Her research in diabetic retinopathy and microRNA biomarkers has been supported by major international grants and has contributed to significant advancements in the field.

Prof. Kamalden is deeply engaged in national academic governance and specialist training, serving on key boards such as the Malaysian Universities Conjoint Committee of Ophthalmology and the Council of the College of Ophthalmologists, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia. Her current focus is the establishment of a multi-institutional Malaysian National Registry for Inherited Retinal Dystrophies, aimed at unifying national efforts in genetic eye disease management and research.
