Dr. Norhalwani Husain is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Glaucoma specialist at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II, Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia. She is currently the Head of the Ophthalmology Specialty for the state of Kelantan and the Head of Glaucoma Subspecialty of MOH. She completed her medical training with the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1997. Subsequently she underwent 4 years of a higher surgical training program in Ophthalmology at the University Kebangsaan Malaysia and was awarded the Masters of Surgery (Ophthalmology) in 2007. Later she joined the subspecialty fellowship training in Glaucoma at Kuala Lumpur Hospital and was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Health Malaysia to join the subspecialty program at Singapore National Eye Centre which she completed in 2013. She received her CCFT in glaucoma training in 2014.
Dr. Norhalwani has held various administrative appointments for which she has been awarded the Excellence in Service award thrice by the Ministry of Health Hospitals. She has presented at numerous local ophthalmology meetings and conferences as well as international conferences. Her research interests are glaucoma and cataract surgery. She also has a special interest in glaucoma surgeries including new glaucoma devices such as new implants and MIGS (minimally invasive glaucoma surgery). She is actively teaching medical students and ophthalmology residents and is a supervisor for ophthalmology residents and glaucoma fellows. She is also an honorary lecturer at the School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and Lincoln University. She is a reviewer for the Malaysian Journal of Ophthalmology (MyJO) and the Malaysian Medical Journal.
