Dr. Maizan Yaakub is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist sub-specialising in Vitreo-retina at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. She graduated with MD from UniversitI Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1994. She then worked in public hospitals before starting her post-graduate training in Ophthalmology. She obtained MMed (Ophthalmology) from Univerisiti Sains Malysia in 2001. She undertook local Vitreo-retina fellowship training and was subsequently awarded a fellowship position at Westmead Hospital, Sydney, Australia in 2006. She obtained a Certificate of Completion of Fellowship Training in Vitreo-retina from Ministry of Health, Malaysia in 2007. She then started the vitreo-retina service in the state of Terengganu and since then has been the single surgeon. She has been the Head of Ophthalmology Department, Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu and the Terengganu State Head of Ophthalmology Service since 2018.
She received the Excellent Service Award in 2005 and 2011. She is a member of Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology and member of retina chapter in College of Ophthalmologist, Academy of Medicine, Malaysia. She teaches regularly and enjoys keeping up to date by attending conference and courses.
