Duratul is an experienced Optometrist with nearly two decades of service in Malaysia’s public hospitals (2000–2019), where she has immense interest in preschool vision screening, primary eye care and vision rehabilitation. She earned doctorate from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia in 2016, conducting groundbreaking research on primary eye care pathways in health clinics. Since 2020, Duratul has served as Senior Principal Assistant Director at the Allied Health Sciences Division (AHSD) Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), leading the Quality and Research Unit. She develops service delivery indicators for 29 allied health professions and focuses on policy-driven research to improve healthcare standards. Along with her current role, her expertise in public eye health has been recognized by global organizations, including the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), Fred Hollows Foundation, and Brien Holden Foundation Australia. She is the principal researcher for Malaysia’s Quality of Refractive Error Care (QREC) study testing the protocol of Fred Hollows Foundation and recently has been appointed by the Brien Holden Foundation Australia to lead the notable Vision for Disadvantaged Children Project, improving access to eye care services for underserved communities in Malaysia.
