Dr Chua is an eye surgeon with subspecialty in eyelid surgery (oculoplastic which includes double eyelid surgery, eyebags, ptosis and eyelid reconstruction). He did his eye training in Oxford Eye Hospital (1997-2000) and did one year of eyelid training in South Thames Deanery, London.
Prior to his return, he was a consultant at Oxford Eye Hospital, Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Royal Berkshire Hospital (2003-4). He also worked as consultant in Alexandra Hospital, Singapore (2004-5).
On his return, he was Professor and later Head of the Eye Department of UNIMAS (2005-2016) and was consultant at the Eye Department of Sarawak General Hospital. He was responsible for teaching medical students as well as training new ophthalmologists. At the Sarawak General Hospital, he ran a referral centre for oculoplastic conditions and Botox clinic for blepharospasm and hemifacial spasm.
Dr Chua is interested in training new ophthalmologists and have websites catering for them to pass examination. In addition, he owns a publishing company that produces eye related books for trainee ophthalmologists (so far 15 titles have been published).
Dr. Chua has published widely in the field of ophthalmology and presented at numerous international meetings. He is also a reviewer for internationally renowned journals such as Eye Journal.
